I used to tell my ex when he wanted to get mad at a driver on the road "hey, it's not your job to make him a better driver." Yes, sometimes people will randomly try to dump their garbage on you, and it's not your job to take out their trash. It's not your job to make everyone else in the world a better person. But there are some times when you have to take someone on to make a better world. When the garbage that they dump on you makes you feel unsafe (leering construction workers catcalling a woman for instance) then it might make sense to call the owner of the construction company and tell him what his employees at the site with his name plastered all over it are saying to passing women. Yes, we always have a choice as to how we respond to another person's garbage. But some types of garbage need a response.
